The Mamma Behind the Camera

It all started with my passion to capture the beautiful heartfelt and intimate moments of people’s memories…

I then decided to buy my first camera, a Nikon SLR digital. And boy oh boy, what an AMAZING experience I had in 2009 when I first held it in my hands. I loved everything about this camera.

This inspired me to establish my photography business, and what helped me to fast track my business, was my good understanding of all the elements involved due to my BA (Hons) degree in Information Design, and later, my design and advertising experience.

So, in 2013 I founded Chanel Oosthuizen Photography, after me and my husband got married and started our journey as newlyweds.

Since then, I have captured beautiful moments of couples, families, new-born babies, weddings and maternity shoots, just to name a few.

I am so privileged to say that, so far with my photography career, I have traveled to more than 5 different provinces in South Africa, and that I have captured memories of clients from other counties like Zambia, Mozambique, Dubai and Australia.

Some years later, after many prayers and 2 operations later, we fell pregnant with our now beautiful daughter. When she was born, we had the privilege to take our own camera into theater. There we got some very emotional and intimate images of when my daughter was born. I then realized that this is something that not everyone has the privilege to, so I decided to add Birth Photography to my business.

After some time, exams, certification and registration, it was added to my business, and I am now proud to say that I am a fully qualified Birth Photographer with all types of births to my name, whether Natural or Cesarean, at Home or in Theater.

This is absolutely something I would recommend, something that is truly my “soft spot” in what I do as a Lifestyle Photographer.

As a photographer, and as a person, children easily connect with me, I have a very friendly, patient, energetic, easy-going personality, and clients love this about me. I think it is because I instantly connect with, and love working with people. I’m also a firm believer that being different is one of the most beautiful things on earth!

With every session, I make it my mission to capture YOU, and the raw unscripted moments that often go unseen, the details that normally get left behind. I have a fascination with how photos can make us feel emotion, and the stories it’s capable of telling.
My ultimate goal is that my clients first feel the emotion in my photos and that the images will tell a story to whoever is viewing at them.

I strive to capture all things earthy, natural, toddler tummies, tiny toes, Mommy bellies, soft babies, romantic couples, loving families, and all this with natural light. These heartfelt moments will be the moments that will blow the minds of all your family and friends, this is my guarantee to you.

THIS is what makes my Lifestyle Shoots so unique, this is why I don’t do studio photography.
